A New Way To Go Wild In Las Vegas - Hiking In Red Rock Canyon
When you think of Las Vegas thoughts of a man-made city of casinos, towering hotels, neon signs, bustling traffic and streets packed with people comes to mind. It’s the city where you can visit Paris, New York and Venice without ever leaving the Vegas Strip. The city where nothing is real, where people go wild and escape their everyday lives. But you do not have to go far outside the city to find an area that is a different kind of wild.
Red Rock Canyon is a National Conservation Area only 15 miles from the Las Vegas Strip featuring Vegas hiking trails, amazing wildlife in Vegas and much more. Occupying one of the easternmost parts of the Mojave Desert, it features over 600 species of plants and is home to wild burros, bighorn sheep, and protected desert tortoise. Over the millennia, six different Native American cultures were present at Red Rock, making the area culturally and historically abundant, and blessing every fortunate occupant with unexpected encounters with petroglyphs, pottery fragments, and agave roasting pits. The combination of complex geology, history, and dramatic landscape create a truly idyllic atmosphere.
The Red Rock Canyon rocks are striped in different shades of reds, pinks and yellows, originating from a thrust fault that occurred about 65 million years ago. It fractured the layers of rock, pushing the older rocks over the younger ones, creating red limestone which has rusted in contact with the air, mixed with the light Aztec Sandstone formed from fossilised sand dunes.
Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas is most definitely a natural source of spectacular visual patterns, especially around the Limestone Quarry area where the swirls of red and cream coloured rock almost look like they have been painted on.
Outdoor adventuring makes us fall in love with our planet and people, it gets our brains rewired differently and forces us to rethink our life priorities.
The incredible combination of the Red Rock Canyon hiking trails, guided hiking tours, yoga, and meditation amongst Red Rock Canyon’s unique rock formations and arches exploding with vibrant red color creates the path to health and well-being everyone is eternally seeking in today’s chaotic and hectic world.
